It was announced yesterday that Delia Smith and Heston Blumenthal will be acting as the new Waitrose food ambassadors. England’s favourite cook and our most endearingly bizarre chef are joining forces to promote the Waitrose brand – both by showcasing recipes, and sharing their expertise, on TV, press and online advertising.
If you ask me, (which you obviously did), this is a jolly clever move by Waitrose. They’ve effectively just bookended the food buying public, since Delia and Heston’s cooking styles couldn’t be more different.
I think my own style of cooking falls somewhere in the middle, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
At the very least, I hope they’ll have a combined effect on getting people motivated about food and cooking.
Although perhaps the people that need to be motivated aren’t the ones who shop at Waitrose. We shall see…
